A year later, Gregorio Martini returned to Cremona Mondomusica with a new group of instruments — from violins to a double bass.

The exhibition is one of the great meeting points of the world of lutherie: makers, dealers, teachers and players walk the halls, try instruments side by side and talk about wood, varnish and sound.

The whole family on one stand

This time a double bass stood at the heart of the stand. Beside the violins and cellos it showed the whole family at a glance — the same ideas of arching, graduation and varnish, carried from the smallest instrument to the largest.

As always, the instruments were there to be played. The best way to understand an instrument is still to hear it — and, better still, to play it.

From the stand back to the bench

Every exhibition sends a maker back to the workshop with new ideas. The remarks of players — about response, about the colour of the sound, about comfort under the hand — are exactly what shapes the instruments that follow.
